Wondering Wednesday,
September 14, 2016
Today was a day for
focusing on the idea of what do I see. We moved our classroom to the outdoors
for a little bit of time. While outside we took time to observe and draw the
trees near the school. When we brought our work inside we shared our drawings with
the each other in a gallery walk. Details were evident in our drawings and gave
some depth to our work. In the morning we worked on visualizing and creating
images of what we heard. It was easy to draw a dog, but all of our dogs looked
different. However when we had to create an image for the word “the” that was a
little harder because nothing came to mind. We discussed how authors use
“juicy” (descriptive) words to create a picture in the reader’s mind. As a
class we are going to spend some time on recognizing and intentionally using
juicy words in our writing. We were able to put this into practice right away
when we discovered the author used an alliteration to catch the reader’s
attention. During math we explored and created rules for sorting polygons with
a partner. We had to create a rule that another group will solve tomorrow. Did
you know that tomorrow we have a parent meeting in the evening and Friday is an
early dismissal?
