Truthful Tuesday, May 23, 2017

This morning Hoja came and performed at our school. This a cappella shared some pretty awesome songs and dances. Mr. Dyck even got up to show us some of his talents!

As we have been exploring India, we have learned about two different ways of how young children travel to school. We have noticed that although their resources are limited, their quality of life is fair. Ask your child - what contributes to quality of life

Open Ended Math Question of the Day

Tell about a time when you would use the number 1/2? Provide real life examples, think about your daily life...what are some real life examples of when you use fractions?

Ken Taylor Makerspace

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are in the process of creating a school Makerspace in our Learning Commons. What’s a Makerspace? It is a place where students can gather to make and create. Our Makerspace will focus on building, robotics, technology, coding, sewing, or a combination of these skills.  A Makerspace allows students to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials. It promotes critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, creativity, and design thinking.
In order to get started on this space, we would like to start to collect items that we can use in this space.  If you have any items that you would like to donate to the school, please send your child with them in a sealed Ziploc bag. We will be collecting from May 23 – June 2.   Please note that all students at Kenneth D. Taylor School will use these materials and they will not be returned.

In Math we have been learning about money. Today we began to look at the word problem below. In our answer, we explore the possibility of 3 times (1 curtain rod, 1 dress and 1 hammer).

If you want to work with your child on this, please have them show all their thinking and as many combinations as possible. We will continue to unpack and explore it over the next while.

Spring Plants - Deadline Extended

The deadline for the Spring Plant Order organized by the Parent Fundraiser Council has been extended until Thursday, May 11. Please see below for more details :)

Wondering Wednesday, May 10, 2017

In I.S. we are learning about building & structures and India. Today we read this wonderful book...

...loaded with lovely images and rich with information on India.

"My dad taught me how to play cricket"

"I love curries"

"I wonder what the Taj Mahal was really for"

Ask your child - what is standard of living? How does our standard of living compare to other countries in the world?

Ask your child - what is an export? What are some of India's exports?

A little bonus challenge - look at some of the tags of your clothing or items around your house. How many and what types of items have been exported from India?
