Fit and Finishing Friday, September 30, 2016

Wow! What a wonderful sight to see all of the students participating in the Terry Fox run today. They shared their personal successes as they ran and smiles. The grade three students continue to develop their leadership skills by collecting the donations (Mrs. Hargreaves’ class) and recycling the blue bins (Mrs. Fraser’s class). We continued to practice our reading strategies during a comprehension activity this morning and we had the opportunity to complete our creative journal pages. In the afternoon we heard the story Mapping Penny’s World. We then took a walk around the school to get a sense of the direction our class faced, which direction our compound faced. Then we drew a bird’s eye view of our school. It was our first draft as we took a gallery walk and discussed how we could change and add to our original ideas. It is great to see how we are beginning to give and seek feedback to improve our ideas! The Brightspace site is now activated. Please check out the different sites related to geometry, and hearing and sound. Have a fantastic Friday!

Thoughtful Thursday, September 29, 2016
We continued to develop our understanding of the reading powers and provided examples for each. Then we represented this idea in our creative journal. We also worked on the next phase of our Picasso Head by reviewing examples of polygons. Taking this information we then created our self-portrait into a Polygon Head.
We continued to seek out specific feedback from our peers and then applied it to our works.

Tomorrow is “Toonies for Terry”. Our Terry Fox run will start after the assembly at 10:00 am.

     Works in progress.

Don't forget RazKids is now available for students to use at home.

Wondering Wednesday, September 28, 2016

Wondering Wednesday, September 28, 2016

We continued to work on our Picasso Head portraits and some of us were able to begin adding cool and warm tones to it. For tomorrow we plan on using the same idea but creating a Polygon Head. We are going to be asked to use just one shape to create a portrait. It will be interesting to compare the two portraits together when they are finished. We finally finished the last of the SLAs Numeracy Performance Task today. Today we received our RazKids information to take home. We were asked to try and do one a night if possible. To go with our reading we have been asked to think about reading using the reading powers: connect, question, visualize, infer and transform. It was interesting to look at a small idea then discuss how it can grow into a large idea. In the afternoon we had a practice fire drill. We discussed how important it was for us to move quickly and quietly out of the building and listen for directions. Our fall leaves display went up outside of the class today. It was very colourful and really showed our use of warm and cool tones. Don’t forget on Friday it is “Toonies for Terry” in the Terry Fox run.
