Today we started to look at the film based on Dr. Seuss' picture book Horton Hears a Who!
We are learning about the importance of community - Why are we a part of a community? How we are a part of a community? How listening in the community is important? What makes a community important? Each of these big questions can be answered using this film, and we are starting to make connections to the real world.
"We are global citizens" one student said.
Yes! Our community is so much bigger than just Evanston. We ARE a part of the bigger picture. Today we also learned that we need to take care of ourselves (be happy and healthy) in order to contribute to our bigger community. We all have needs and wants, but need to realize that what we do can make a difference in our world.
Together we constructed this image - ask us how math was involved in making this (hint - counting by 3's).
Reminder: Book Orders are due tomorrow Thursday, October 20.
Half Day on Friday, October 21.
